Glamping in Bled (ENG)

Glamping? What are we talking about?

Well, Glamping derives from glam + camping, so it means “glam camping”, a camping for those who, like us, love convenience but would like to try something extravagant.
A bit curious?
Then continue reading…

We stayed in Bled from Tuesday 21st April to Thursday 23rd.
We left from home at 1 pm and we arrived at about 6.30 pm. We had previously booked our wooden hut, named Gozdne Vile at Camping Bled, wonderful! At our arrival we found our hot tub nice and ready. Ale immediately dove into it, but we had to wait for midnight to have the ideal water’s temperature.
We later discovered that the hot tub are prepared in the afternoon so that the water was too hot in the evening. It was perfect to dive into it either in the afternoon or at night.

After having a brief bath in the hot tube, we got ready to visit the town centre. We must say that restaurants in Bled are pricier than in the rest of Slovenia maybe because that’s a touristic hub even in the low season. We decided to eat a pizza at Gallus, it was good even for our high Italian standards.

Once back in the camping we had another bath, it was 11 pm and the water was perfect. Afterwards we had a shower in our private bathroom: you should know that the little hut has no room for anything except a comfortable bed and some shelves, you will have a bathroom in common outside or, if you prefer, you can book a private bathroom for 7 euros a day. In this way you will have clean towel every morning; the bathroom is extremely cute: it is wholly made of wood and has a big shower with “waterfall” jet.

The following day we had breakfast at the camping’s café, we would have liked to take the typical boat, named pletna, to visit Bled isle, but it had already left. We had a walk around the lake and finally took the pletna at 12.30 am. It costs 12 euros a person (a bit pricey for the short journey) and it’s packed with people: on our boat there was 4 outgoing Hungarians and a number of Koreans.

The isle is really small, you can reach its church climbing 90-step-stairs, but we didn’t get into it.

We stayed on the isle for a short  time, at 2.30 pm we were already at the camping buying some food at the supermarket, the Mercator.
After having lunch we took our car to visit lake Bohinj: bigger than Bled lake, it has very clear and cold water!

Bohinj Lake
It’s about 7 pm when we came back and found a man in our hot tub, after yellig at him we discovered that he was our hut’s neighbour: he explained with a beautiful British accent that his water was too hot and, thinking we had left the camping, he had decided to use our tub whose water was colder. Fully embarrassed he came back to his hut with his wife pulling his leg.
Our neighbourhood in the camping
Once forgotten our misadventure we went to the camping’s restaurant to have dinner, it wass 7.30 pm: we ate porcino mushrooms’ soup and beef broth with noodles (Slovenia is famous for its soups) and we shared a dish of ćevapčići (do you remember them? We talked about them here) with fries: very good!

Bled cream cake: kremšnita
It was Wednesday 22nd April and Ale would have liked to wath the football match: Juventus – Monaco, but we didn’t find any café where the match could be watched, so we came back to the camping in order to taste the famous Bled cake, kremšnita: a sort of millefoglie pastry with cream and whipped cream similar to our “Kinder Paradiso”. Here you can read something about it.
The day ends, as usual, with a nighttime bath in our hot tub…

The following day we had to leave the camping. We woke up at 9 o’ clock, it was cold at night because it had rained.
We had breakfast with cappuccino and croissant and came back to our hut to take our baggage: there we found a TV troup filming the new mobile home for families that opened on 1st May.

At 10.40 we left and headed to the Bled Castle: the adult ticket costs 9 Euros and includes the visit of the museum, the wine cellar and the typography inside it.
Here you can also find a restaurant and a lot of souvenirs, but also an amazing view of the lake!

We had a personalized print made by Uroŝ, a very friendly guy dressed in Medieval clothes.

Here ends our journey in Bled, then we left for Aquileia.

And finilly our favourites:

What do you think about it? Would you try the glamping experience at Bled?
Let us know,

Ale and Jessy
